Natural Fibre Bilum
These stunning bilums have been handwoven by the Highlands women of Papua New Guinea using the knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
All our natural fibre bilums are handwoven using plant fibres in a long arduous process that involves turning the plant fibres into twine across the naked thighs of the women. The colours are achieved through soaking and/or boiling mother natures colourful creations such as berries, tree bark and mud.
Being handwoven, every bilum is unique and can take several months to complete.
Please note: The process of sourcing the fibre and dying the bilum is 100% natural and completed by female artisans. There are no imperfections, the differences are simply the journey and story of the bilum and it's weaver.
